NSW Police released a description of the Nissan X-trail this morning after it was last spotted by a member of the public near Canowindra, a town in central-west NSW (near Cowra).
They confirmed the car had been stolen during an aggravated break-and-enter in Queensland some time between 11pm on October 26 and 5.30am the next day.
Police patrolled the area but could not find the car.
The vehicle, which has Queensland registration plates 555RCX, first came to the attention of police on the Hume Freeway at Benalla about 10.50am and several chases ensued.
By 5pm, the car had travelled at least 500 kilometres over six hours through Wodonga, Albury, Wagga, Temora, Young and Cowra.
The three occupants - two men and a woman - threw items including gumboots and headrest out the window, stole petrol at a general store at Lake Hume and forced road workers to jump out of the way after "pumping through" their roadworks site near at Table Top.
The items have been seized by police and will be forensically examined.
