Resources and media billionaire Kerry Stokes says he's not talking with the government about media ownership laws, but he'll be pleased when a complete package is presented.

"I don't think there's anything to discuss," the Seven West Media chairman said at the launch of the biography, Kerry Stokes: The Boy from Nowhere.
"I'm sure that they'll [the government] canvass everyone's opinions on a range of issues and at a time when we can decide the broad range of issues, I'll be very excited about reform. Just not bits and pieces."
Progress on watering down of media ownership laws has stalled as the government has demanded consensus among media companies before proceeding.
Mr Stokes' Seven West Media has not supported the abolition of the "two out of three rule", which prevents a company from owning radio, television and print businesses in the same market, or the abolition of the "reach rule", which prevents metropolitan free-to-air networks merging with regional affiliates.
The competition regulator in 2012 blocked a request from Mr Stokes, who controls the Seven Network, to bid for Mr Packer's pay TV investment vehicle, Consolidated Media Holdings. This would have given Mr Stokes a major interest in pay TV operator Foxtel and Fox Sports.
Mr Stokes said his decision to co-operate on the book, by journalist Andrew Rule, was not a sign he planned to step back from his considerable business interests. It was prompted by discomfort over some things that had been written about him.
"I thought that if it was going to happen, I'd like to choose or actually have a say in the person who wrote it and I wanted to make sure it was a good writer. That's why ... I was comfortable for Andrew through [publisher] HarperCollins to do that."
But Mr Stokes hasn't read the book yet.
"There's no question, if I were to have read it, I'd want to change it. I look forward over Christmas after skiing to actually pick it up and take some time to read it."
But he said the book "won't determine who I am. I really need to stay true ... what my focus is."
The launch was hosted by one-time Seven presenter Andrew Denton, who described Mr Stokes as "not your usual mogul" and presented him with a giant business card showing all the jobs he has done throughout his once poverty-stricken life.
"I came to launch the book today because I genuinely like this man, and I like this man because he is genuine," Mr Denton said.
Mr Stokes returned the favour by explaining that one should never follow an Andrew Denton speech.
