A mix of the best from the Albury Wodonga Football Association will take on another new entity in Cobram Roar at La Trobe from 7pm.

The Roar is an amalgam of the clubs formerly known as Cobram Victory and Cobram Tigers and recently won the Riverina Premier League.

The club has applied to join AWFA next year, with a decision to be handed down at the association’s November meeting.

Murray United technical director Paul Millynn said it was a milestone for the fledgling club.

“It’s our first game together and will give us some idea of where we are at,” he said.

“Cobram should start favourite due to their premier league success and the fact we are yet to play a competitive game.

“But while we are still in the final stage of selections for local players and haven’t played together you can expect a possession game from our side.

“For those outside the club, the possible line up could include last year’s star player Josh Mulcahy and runner-up Andrew Grove and golden boot winner Zac Walker.”

Class acts such as Sam Graetz, Dan Millynn, Jarrod Herzina, Ryan Giles, Darcy Pawlik, Melkie Woldemichael, Aaron Gough, James Coutts, Jesse Stephens, keepers Matt Mildren and Ben Russell and some players trialling from outside AWFA are likely to be included.

“With the exception of one or two I think we have the best in the association.”

Millynn said the fact the trial was against the recently united Cobram team was another bonus.

“It is fantastic,” he said.

“Cobram has a successful and proud history with their two local teams Cobram Victory and Cobram Tigers and now they have joined forces.

“I understand the newly-formed Cobram Roar has also applied to AWFA for entry into our local league, and they would be a fantastic addition, not only for quality players they provide but the fact that they fill all playing age groups.”

Millynn said the under-15s and 16s would play the curtain-raiser to the main game at 5.30pm.
