Lyon, who won the Victorian light heavyweight title in Melbourne last weekend, has replaced Melbourne’s Jordan Lundh in the showdown for the Riverina middleweight title.
“I have sparred with him before and he’s pretty good,” Lyon, 19, said yesterday.
“He’s the best I have come across.”
Trained at Wodonga’s Reno Zurek Boxing Academy, Lyon has only taken up boxing seriously in the past six months and is turning heads with his progress.
“I had my first fight when I was 14 but gave it away after that,” he said.
“I only got serious again six months ago to try and get fit.
“I’m enjoying it now.”
Lyon will compete in the national titles in Hobart next month.
Gates open at 6pm tomorrow.
