Ellis, an ex-Spitfire now playing in Melbourne’s premier league, provided two goals in each of the X-Ray Group’s wins in the hybrid hockey format last week.
It goes into the final round tonight assured of a spot in the decider, but the rest is up for grabs.
Hockey 8s spokesman Ross Maggs said Ellis was the difference in both games last week.
“Ellis took control of the midfield and in one moment of magic jinked his way from the halfway to just outside the circle where he laid off a terrific pass to Fraser Cullen to slap a back stick tomahawk past keeper Anthony Corby,” he said.
“Results in the final round of matches will determine who plays them in the decider.”
Maggs said the women’s division was also wide open.
“Newmarket Hotel is still on top of the ladder after Emma Hooppell scored to give them a 1-0 win over Johnsons MME,” he said.
“They only need a draw in the final round to advance to the final.”
Tonight’s final round matches start at 6.15pm, with the women’s final at 8.30pm and the men’s final at 9.15pm.
