The best of these cartoons will be showcased at the Albury Library Museum from today.
The work of Mark Knight, Michael Leunig and David Rowe will be included in the collection for travelling exhibition, Behind the Lines.
“There has never been a year like 2013 in politics,” exhibitions co-ordinator Jules Boag said.
“The exhibition tells the tale of Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott through broken parliamentary alliances, corruption scandals and leadership spills.”
Mr Boag said last year would be remembered as a year of challenges for political leaders, drama for their constituents and endless inspiration for the cartoonists.
Mr Boag picked Knight’s reference to the television show Game of Thrones as one of his favourites.
“I like the ones that reference pop culture,” he said.
“The Game of Thrones cartoon came about when Kevin Rudd returned to the scene last year.
“Rudd was saying that under no circumstances would he return to the leadership.”
There are 89 cartoons on display that have been chosen from 900 submissions.
The Behind The Lines exhibition will continue until December 14.
