The only exception has been the Napthine government’s failure to recognise the need for funding to rebuild the Albury hospital emergency department.
The hospital might be north of the state border but Albury-Wodonga Health is a Victorian health service supported by an agreement between the states.
Yesterday, Victorian Health Minister David Davis agreed with the extent of the overcrowding and growth in demand faced at Albury, but he says there is no new money to meet the need for a rebuild.
That is at odds with former Albury Wodonga Health chief executive Stuart Spring and NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner, who have both confirmed a new Albury emergency department as a high priority.
Wodonga hospital’s emergency department has been rebuilt and the region’s $70 million cancer centre is now taking shape.
They are great additions to our health services, but the NSW and Victorian governments must come together again to ensure the Albury emergency department will meet current and future needs.
