One of them, Kyle Trent Cameron Meadway, appeared in Albury Local Court yesterday through a video link from Junee jail.
Solicitor Kate Bleasel said Meadway, 24, of Kurnell Place, Albury, is pleading not guilty to nine charges, including driving at a dangerous speed, disqualified driving, exceeding the speed by more than 45km/h and using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.
Magistrate Tony Murray has ordered the preparation of a police evidence brief and the charges have been adjourned until December 9.
Zane Anthony Williams, 20, of Pell Street, Howlong, has been charged with driving at a dangerous speed and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
Mr Murray said Williams had initially pleaded guilty to the matters, but then disputed his speed.
Williams was told yesterday to arrange a viewing of police in-car video footage and his charges were adjourned until November 25.
Police allege each man was driving a Commodore as they raced down Young Street about 9.20am on September 18.
Highway patrol police checking speeds in a school zone estimate the cars were travelling about 120km/h in a 40km/h area.
Two police officers turned to follow the two cars which stopped at the Borella Road and Young Street traffic lights in medium to heavy traffic.
It is alleged Meadway was driving a blue Commodore and reversed into the front of the police vehicle.
A man and woman were travelling in a Nissan X-Trail with a child and Meadway allegedly moved his car forward hitting their vehicle.
He then allegedly hit the back of a black Commodore being driven by Williams as he tried to push through traffic.
A police officer went to the driver’s door and managed to get Meadway’s keys.
An attempt was made to restrain him, but Meadway allegedly got out the passenger side and ran off into a nearby Bunnings yard.
One of the police tried to give chase, but injured his knee and is still off work.
Police allege Meadway was wanted for an outstanding warrant relating to an assault.
Williams was arrested at the scene by police.
