At least three-quarters of the $20 million project at Barnawartha North is complete.
Selling pens at the undercover facility are almost finished, except for a few walkways now being constructed.
Anyone who wants to have a close look at the site will get their chance at an open day to run on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
The Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange — trading under the name NVLX — will have 192 selling pens, 70 dual-purpose receival pens and more than a dozen loading ramps when finished.
NVLX operations manager James Thompson said construction was “flying along”.
“They’re doing a huge amount of work on the processing areas,” he said.
“There’s a hell of a lot happening at the mom-ent.”
And Mr Thompson said the construction project was on time.
“Early in the piece we got a great run with the civil works with the weather,” he said.
“We then ran into a little bit of wet weather and lost some time, but they’ve made that up and have been tracking very well.”
Mr Thompson said the past month had been going especially well.
“You go down there every week, it’s amazing how much more gets done,” he said.
“It just keeps evolving.”
Mr Thompson said the scale of the project “does blow you away a bit”.
“You look at all the plans and everything you want on paper,” he said.
“But until you get in there you can’t see how really impressive it is with the structure of the whole thing, and how they put it together.
“It’s a work of art.”
Mr Thompson said he had received a lot of comments from people driving past the facility about just how quickly the project was coming along.
But, he said, there was only so much you could see from the road.
“To actually get in there and have a look is quite an eye-opener,” he said.
“The reason why we’re doing this is it’s good to see it during the construction process.
“We’ve done this at other sites and it’s been pretty successful, people get a good idea of how it’s all coming together.”
NVLX is operated by Regional Infrastructure, whose managing director Gary Edwards will give a welcome address on Saturday about noon.
A barbecue lunch will be provided at 12.30pm.
