COLLINGWOOD plans to return to Falls Creek after a “fantastic” camp at the alpine resort.
The club’s first-to-fourth-year players were put through a gruelling week of fitness and mental challenges which culminated in a triathlon along Rocky Valley Dam yesterday.
Put simply, the Magpies are fans of training at altitude.
They spent chunks of pre-season in Arizona and Utah in the US from 2005 to 2012 and will head to Queenstown in New Zealand in January once the full playing list is back in training.
“The weather we’ve had here has been brilliant, the facilities have been fantastic,” coach Nathan Buckley said.
“We’ve been able to put together a really strong camp — not just the physical aspects but the accommodation has been great, the team meeting facilities have been really good.
“Without having done a thorough review, I would’ve thought we’ve been pretty positive about this and looking to do it again.
“It was well organised and well run.
“Once you’ve formulated that plan you rely on the players to tip in and give everything of themselves.
“We never forget the reason we do all of this stuff is so when you’re at the MCG against an opponent, when the whips are cracking, you can perform.
“Some of that is kicks, marks and handballs and some of it is mental and a lot of it is their ability to pull each other through and that’s what we’ve challenged them on on this camp.”
