We even had Myrtleford president Bill O’Donohue talking up the club’s chances against Albury in the opening round.
“We would be happy with any draw that guarantees an Easter Sunday clash at the McNamara Oval. This is the game that sets us up for the rest of the season with a typical crowd of between 3000 and 4000,” he said.
“I wouldn’t declare we will win but we’ll be competitive.”
Raiders’ Nic Conway was also upbeat.
“We’re excited to be part of the Good Friday clash in Wangaratta under lights,” he said.
Bulldogs’ Richard Bence said they needed to start winning.
“We could have games in all the right spots but until we start winning games we won’t get the crowds back so that’s the priority — we’re putting together a list we think will win those clutch games,” he said.
While many reported the draw as version 14 it wasn’t until we asked about the lack of Sunday games, only two on Easter Sunday, that they settled on a final version.
They forgot the two Sunday games in Wangaratta and the one at Corowa.
