Cr Jackson intends to move a motion at the meeting that pledges its support to the cause of Marriage Equality Australia.
He says while the motion would not have any legal impact, it would make it clear where the city stands on the issue.
Cr Jackson believes the community supports the proposal and wants to see action on support for same-sex marriage.
Hume Phoenix is encouraging that support, but the question is whether the motion and the issue is something the council should be considering as part of its business.
Mayor Kevin Mack says it will be determined through debate on Monday night whether or not support for same-sex marriage is relevant to the council.
It will be up to individual councillors to offer an opinion as to whether they believe the council should have a view, and whether it is an issue they believe is supported by ratepayers.
No doubt the plan to raise the issue of same-sex marriage might be expected to draw a larger audience to the council chambers for Monday night’s meeting.
