A WEST Albury youth was yesterday remanded in custody after an unsuccessful bail application on charges involving the theft of a purse and a handbag along with a break-in at a Lavington bakery.
Police prosecutor Sgt Ben Hart said the youth, 15, had failed to comply with bail conditions.
Sgt Hart said he had committed serious offences and had a blatant disregard for people’s rights.
The youth is facing two counts of stealing from a person and aggravated break and enter in company committing a serious indictable offence.
Police allege the youth was accompanied by three others when he broke into a bakery on Wagga Road on November 12.
His fingerprints were found on a glass panel.
The youth allegedly snatched a woman’s purse from her hand on November 11 and was an accomplice in a bag snatch seven days later.
Both offences were caught on closed circuit footage, but solicitor Verity Smith said the youth had not seen either of them.
“I would concede his history of like offences,” Ms Smith said.
Magistrate Megan Greenwood remanded the youth in custody and adjourned his charges for mention next Monday.
Ms Greenwood said he had a long criminal history and a pattern of failing to comply with bail.
She said it was inevitable that the youth would spend a period in custody if convicted of the offences.
