Whether it be texts of encouragement or donations made to the James McQuillan Future Fund, McQuillan said his personal battle had been made easier by the Albury-Wodonga and Echuca communities.
“It’s been great,” McQuillan said.
“The support hasn’t wavered all at and I’m very appreciative.
“I’m pretty lucky in the scheme of things as a few people in here (Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre) don’t have as many visitors and friends come through as I do.
“It makes things a lot better.”
James McQuillan Future Fund chairman Michael Blomeley said McQuillan’s attitude had been amazing.
“James has always had a fantastic attitude,” Blomeley said.
“He has a sense that all things happen for a reason and I strongly suspect that he will put all of his challenges to good use.
“While we are overwhelmed by the tremendous support we have received so far from the community we are still desperately short of where we need to be.”
Organisers were delighted with the success of the Albury Football Club’s grand final luncheon at the SS and A Club with Brisbane Lions premiership player Jonathan Brown as guest speaker.
“The SS and A were fantastic in pulling that together,” Blomeley said.
“It was one of our biggest fund-raisers.”
The organising committee has several other major fund-raising projects in the pipeline with a Holden Colorado raffle at the top of the list.
About 7000 of the 20,000 $10 tickets have been sold with the raffle to be drawn at the SS and A Club on January 30.
It’s been great. The support hasn’t wavered all at and I’m very appreciative ... It makes things a lot better.
