The 34-year-old was driving south along the Myrtleford-Yackandandah Road on Saturday about 12.40pm when her car veered slightly to the left onto the gravel.
Police believed she over-corrected on a bend near Barwidgee Creek at Mudgegonga before losing control.
The car then went off the right side of the road, hitting a tree, breaking it off at the ground.
It then went over an embankment smashing front first into a table drain and flipping before it landed on its roof.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was taken to Wangaratta hospital by ambulance following the crash.
Leading Sen-Constable Brendan Achammer said the road was a 100km/h zone.
He said the woman had set the vehicle’s cruise control as she travelled along the road.
Police don’t believe she was speeding.
“She’s cut the corner a little bit is what I imagine has happened, causing the wheel to drop into the dirt,” Sen-Constable Achammer said.
“There was also a baby seat in the back so thank God there was no baby in there.”
The car was towed from the scene after initial concerns about leaking fuel.
Sen-Constable Achammer said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the accident.
“What needs to be put out there, if you’re going to travel with cruise control you can’t entirely relax, you still need to make sure you have the correct road positioning and you need to concentrate.
“A lot of people put cruise control on and turn the brain off.
“So be mindful once cruise control is set you still have to be switched on to drive.”
