East Albury’s Cameron White has had a look in on five occasions and taken one — and that’s just this season.
The Crows spearhead is on course for another stellar season with the ball, guiding his side to the top of the Provincial ladder with 26 wickets.
And in the enviable position of being his skipper is James McNeil, who said White’s contribution has been crucial.
“Cam’s really important,” he said.
“We’re starting to get things right (as a team) but Cameron’s just a great role model for the younger blokes and the older ones.
“He probably works the hardest of anyone at the club and it’s great to see the success coming through.
“Everyone at the club would say Cam’s one of the nicest blokes they’ve met, and probably even the blokes he plays against too.
“He’s one of my best mates and I’m really proud to see him doing so well — he just goes about his business and gets his job done, it’s not easy to fluster Whitey.”
White took two wickets in a row and missed out on the third, before taking a hat trick in the same game in a round three demolition of Wodonga Raiders.
White went on to take 10 wickets for the match and, at silly mid-off, McNeil had a front-row view as White proceeded to bowl out three batsmen in a row.
“After Whitey’s first I walked across to our import (Aleem Mahmood) and said ‘watch this, he’ll get a hat-trick here’,” McNeil said.
“I think he’d say everything clicked that day, everything went right, it was a special moment.
“He has a knack of getting wickets in bunches and you could just sense something was going to happen.
“He was on fire — I don’t know if anyone would have been able to face him that day, it was very special to watch.”
Another close call came on Sunday when he represented CAW in the Konica Cup, with White’s pace, swing and accuracy doing the damage once more.
“He’s always been supremely talented, it was only a matter of time before things started to click for him,” McNeil said.
Last season White took 46 wickets, second only to Mark Butters who took 51 for St Patrick’s.
“To take 23 after the first six games is pretty impressive,” McNeil said.
“And in rep cricket he’s excelling — he’s been the pick of our fast bowlers.”
Cameron’s just a great role model ... He probably works the hardest of anyone at the club and it’s great to see the success coming through.
