White Ribbon Day, which is in its 11th year, throws a powerful spotlight on the violence some men inflict on women.
At the same time, it recognises the positive role men play in preventing such violence and it promotes male leadership and engagement in the battle to prevent such violence.
The truth clearly is that most men are not violent and abhor the behaviour of those who seek to harm women, either physically or emotionally.
But in the wider community, there is increasing concern about the appalling rate of violence against women and the need for social change.
That’s what today’s White Ribbon Day is all about, with events across the country aimed at raising awareness and stopping the violence and deaths.
Showing your support is important and you’re invited to do that by being part of White Ribbon Day events planned for the Border and North East.
Simply by wearing the white ribbon or wristband you can acknowledge the need for change and support the victims of this scourge.
