Kathleen Whelan spent two years with photographers from The Age, travelling with them as they captured images for the newspaper.
About 300 photographs taken by Whelan comprise Photography of The Age, which was launched in Wangaratta yesterday.
“I think photojournalism allows us to see the culture, humanity and the emotions in society,” she said.
“It helps with our understanding of our culture.”
The book gives an insight into the professional lives of photographers and the work they undertake to capture their images.
Ms Whelan, a photographer who has lectured on the art form for 30 years, also interviewed staff and photographers at the newspaper.
“I’ve just been really blessed that they were so generous with their ideas, their techniques and their passion for great photos,” she said.
