Players and managers were taken from the field at the 41st minute mark after a third successive pitch invader caused referee Yevhen Aranovsky to stop play.

The invasion has the hallmarks of a guerilla marketing stunt with the three pitch invaders wearing the same shirt advertising BassBuds, a Tottenham club partner and 'official' headphones of the Spurs.

The initial exhibitionist was able to avoid security for over a minute, while running around the field snapping 'selfies' with several Hotspur players including Kyle Naughton and Jan Vertonghen.

Hotspurs striker Roberto Soldado attempted to remove one of the invading offenders after security seemed helpless to address the issue.

The match which was goalless when play was interrupted, resumed after a nine-minute delay. Tottenham eventually claimed a 1-0 victory, however officials will face questions over the ease at which invaders were able to enter the pitch and the seemingly lack of security to prevent them.

The official Twitter page of Tottenham Hotspurs claimed that "three pitch invaders at tonight's match have been arrested" and offered a public apology after the incident calling it "totally unacceptable behaviour".
