Both Albury Central and Rural Fire Service crews attended the blaze, which broke out about 11am.
It started off as one fire before breaking off into two separate arms, burning 2-3ha of land altogether.
No homes were under threat during the blaze.
The cause of the fire is unknown but a witness reported hearing an explosion and seeing flames racing up the hill away from the Albury hospital.

A fire is burning on Eastern Hill.
Firefighters from Albury Central and Rural Fire Service are tackling the outbreak.
A witness said the fire was heading up the hill away from the Albury hospital and described hearing an explosion.
The cause of the fire is being investigated with a firefighter describing a heap of scrub alight.
It is unclear how close the fire is to homes.
