Ward has been out of action after he sustained a fracture to his C2 vertebrae.
His specialist recently gave him the all-clear to return to trackwork riding.
Ward expects to have his first race ride at Canberra on Sunday week.
The talented hoop is the reigning Southern District premiership-winning jockey and last season became just the fifth rider to reach 100 winners in a season in NSW and the ACT.
He has also won four Canberra jockey premierships.
FORMER Wodonga apprentice jockey Danny Beasley is weighing up his riding future.
Beasley has spent the past seven years in Singapore but was recently told by the Singapore Turf Club his licence won’t be renewed on January 1.
Fellow Aussies Michael Rodd and Craig Newitt will begin riding in Singapore in the new year.
Beasley sits second in the jockey’s premiership behind Manoel Nunes.
He enjoyed plenty of success in Sydney before relocating to Singapore but is no certainty to return to the harbour city. Macau, Mauritius and Japan are other realistic options.
Beasley began his apprenticeship at Peter Maher’s Wodonga stable in the mid-1990s and has since become one of Australia’s most accomplished overseas riders.
The 39-year-old won the 1995 Wodonga Cup aboard Atlantic Comet before forging a highly successful career in Sydney.
His win aboard Polar Success in the 2003 Golden Slipper was just one of many highlights.
JERILDERIE jockey Sally Sweeney hasn’t taken long to make her presence felt in the local jockey ranks.
The four-kilogram claiming apprentice took out heat four of the Rising Star series at Goulburn on Tuesday.
It was the sixth ride of her fledging career and second success after having her first ride for a winner on November 1 at Balranald.
The 18-year-old is indentured to father, Phil.
Older sister, Brooke, will head to Sandown on Saturday for the one ride aboard Final Jest who is trained by her father.
Final Jest is a last-start winner of the Euroa Cup at Benalla.
