Commercial president Les Murphy said the team had been competitive all year, although it had won just one match.
Saturday followed a familiar pattern, with Brian Linehan taking the rink for the Panthers against David Barnes 20-17, Vic Moore winning 21-18 over Albert Allen and George Chomatek beating Murphy 24-14.
“Allen and Moore were all level going in to the last end,” Murphy said.
“Then Vic managed to move the kitty and get a couple of extra shots and that put them in front.
“And Lineham and Barnes were close all the way through — all in all it was a close battle throughout the course of the day.”
The competition will resume on February 7.
Murphy said the break would give Commercial the chance to re-group.
“In general, it’s a strong competition at this division,” he said.
“There are very good teams at Henty and Holbrook and you can’t rule out North Albury, either.
“But we’ve had a win and it’s run very close in a couple of other games so we’re hanging right on the edge of going forward.
“We’re all working nicely together. Our division 4 had a win at Howlong and divisions 5 and 6 had a win — there’s a break now so we’re all going to regenerate.”
Elsewhere, it was a close-run affair as Culcairn defeated Holbrook 63-61, and Henty defeated North Albury 63-51.
