While there will be celebrations, there will no doubt be a few tears too among those who perhaps have not done as well as hoped — meaning now is an opportune time to remind young people there is life beyond VCE.
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre is quick to say the ATAR score — which universities use to determine which students are offered places in their courses — is not a “pass or fail”, and that anyone receiving a score has successfully achieved their VCE and finished 13 years of schooling.
That milestone alone should be the result that counts most.
No doubt getting into the course of your dreams first go will make life easier, but there are always other ways to achieve your goals — one number does not close the door to university forever, nor is university the only option for education.
To all year 12 students we say: Be proud of what you’ve achieved and if it’s not what you hoped for, try, try again.
