Enjoying her birthday at her son’s house with some home-made food and a glass of wine in hand, Ivy Martin said family had been the most important thing.
And that’s exactly who Mrs Martin was surrounded by — from her sons right through to her great-grandchildren.
“I’m very fortunate in my family and I’ve always been very family oriented,” she said.
“I’ve got three sons, eight grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, I can’t keep up with them all.”
Born in London on December 14, she lived most her life in the UK before retiring and moving to Australia in 1980.
After taking her last overseas trip at age 92, Mrs Martin was never one to let age get in the way of a good time.
“I do enjoy life — that’s the thing,” she said.
“Everyone tells me I’m doing well and I agree.
“Sitting in a wheelchair I look and feel fine and so I should, I’m waited on hand and foot.”
Mrs Martin is the oldest resident at Westmont Aged Care Services at Baranduda and said she would be rich if she knew why.
“If I knew the secret to long life, I would have bottled it and sold it for millions.”
