Taking on Bruck this weekend in a rematch of last year’s T20, the Colts are also calling on past players and past members of the club to head down for a day of cricket and celebration.
Vice-captain Kent Braden hoped to see up to 150 people at the club after a 50-year reunion recently.
“It’s our turn to host Bruck and we thought we’d try to get in touch with as many past players as we could and get them back around the club,” he said.
“We got the win last year and hopefully we’ll repeat that, and if we get a few people cheering us on hopefully we should be able to get a good result.
“The T20 format is good fun — it is a bit odd playing one game for points but it is what it is.”
Braden said the club had ties with Tarrawingee Football Club, and had about 40 former players already coming.
“It’s also the Christmas party so hopefully we can see 100 to 150 people,” he said.
“We’ve got a big multi-purpose centre with changerooms, showers, a function room and we’ll be having a barbecue and drinks around that.
“But it’s only about four or five years old so there’ll be a few blokes who used to play when we had the tin shed.”
The Colts’ B Grade will take on Bruck at noon at Barr Reserve, while the club’s two C Grade teams will play each other on Barr 2.
The main game is at 3pm.
Braden said his team was hoping to repeat last year’s outcome, even though injuries have recently hit, particularly in the bowling department.
“We bat pretty deep and our bowling is slowly getting back to where we need it to be,” he said.
“In an ideal world it would be good to be playing them after Christmas but we’ll get by — there’s no excuses and hopefully we’re good enough to get the job done.”
And among the batting is the remarkable fact Greg Daniel has been dismissed only once this season — leaving him on an average of 197.
“He was finding his feet a little last year having come from North Albury,” Braden said.
“But he’s bowling really well and batting extremely well.
“It doesn’t surprise me he’s only been out once — he’s been making 40s and 50s which makes it easier for us.
“And he’ll only get stronger the more he plays.
Braden also singled out Isaac Willett for praise after hitting three half-centuries in a row at the start of the season.
“I’m expecting big things from him after Christmas,” he said.
