About 6000 Murray cod fingerlings were released into the waterway between Albury and Howlong to help keep recreational fishing strong.
Fishermen love to take but Jindera Anglers Club secretary Stuart Montgomery said restocking was the members way of giving back and ensuring fish would be around in good numbers for years to come.
“Have you ever eaten one?” he asked. “We all want to catch one for a good feed every now and then.”
Mr Montgomery said having more cod in the river would also help the environment.
