SMILES lit up on the faces of the children in Albury last night as a bumper crowd attended Carols by Candlelight.
Thousands of people danced and sang along to carols from dozens of performers at Albury Sportsground during the upbeat and energetic event.
Santa, who sang Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with nine-year-old Hope Chater, proved popular with young attendees.
Electronic candles, which were sold to support the James McQuillan Future Fund, lit up the scene as sunset fell.
Albury Council events team leader Ros Walls said moving the event from QEII Square back to the oval had proved successful.
“It’s another one of our mighty carols events,” she said.
“It’s the biggest event we hold during the year and everyone loves it.
“It’s a long-standing tradition in Albury.”
Local musician Danny Phegan hosted the event, which featured performances from Eliza Hull, Jacob McCrohan and Madeline MacLean backed by the Albury City Band and the Carols All Star Band.
While the show featured traditional songs including White Christmas, Here Comes Santa Claus and Silent Night, Ms Walls said they had an “edgy” and upbeat feel.
“It’s great to get the community together,” she said.
