The blaze, south-west of Tunnel Road and north-east of River Road, burned through 1000ha including backburning, and is believed to have started by another lightning strike that lay unnoticed until sparking on Tuesday.
NSW Rural Fire Service inspector Marg Wehner said: “People will see a lot of smoke, a lot of flames, but there is no wind to carry embers across (to Victoria).”
