There are some who wouldn’t have been too pleased by the operation which yielded drugs and other contraband from passengers identified during a sniffer dog operation and search by NSW and Victorian police.
It was the first time police from both states have joined forces for a public transport operation and we certainly hope the results mean it won’t be the last.
NSW Sgt Mick Chubb said the message to passengers was simple — drugs would not be tolerated on trains or any other form of public transport.
Given that many passengers travelling through Albury and Wodonga are on long-distance journeys, it is appropriate that they are able to feel safe and not be exposed to illegal activities that might be undertaken by others.
There should be zero tolerance to those carrying drugs or weapons of any kind.
Albury police were involved in the operation and Insp Kim Sorensen said the results would now be assessed to determine whether there should be another operation.
