A MAN has had his leg crushed by an excavator while working at a Wodonga house.

The man, 70, was hurt while working with his son behind a house in McCulloch Crescent on Saturday morning.
An five-tonne Hitachi excavator was driven over the man’s left leg while he was changing a bucket about 10.30am.
Rubber tracks on the excavator crushed the man’s leg. It is believed his son was driving at the time.
The weight caused a severe cut to the man’s leg — he was taken to Albury hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Police and WorkCover will investigate what caused the incident.
“He sustained a significant injury to his leg,” Sgt Stewart Smith said.
“We don’t know exactly what’s caused it, but they were disconnecting a bucket when the incident occurred.”
Sgt Smith said there had been nothing to suggest that drugs, alcohol or neglect were involved in the incident.
“We will be looking at whether it was human error or a mechanical error,” Sgt Smith said.
“They’re experienced contractors.”
He said it had been a large-scale job.
The men are from the Wodonga area and were close to finishing the excavation.
