It was a timely reply from the home team after losing to ladder leaders Wodonga in the last two ends a week earlier.
Wangaratta made the most of its own expansive greens that demand greater touch.
Maurie Brayden, Greg McDonald and Ian Brimblecombe all won their rinks in the 17-shot win.
Gary Sanders was the only rink winner for Yarrawonga-Mulwala.
Brimblecombe said it was a must win game for both teams.
“It was a good response having lost to Wodonga by just two shots at the end of the day the week before and with four games to go it puts a bit of space between us and Yarrawonga-Mulwala Golf Club Resort on the table,” he said.
“We were on the home turf and probably handled the conditions a bit better.
“Wangaratta allows for a wider draw than other greens in the district, you’re able to take more grass and it becomes a touch game rather than running through the ends.”
Brimblecombe believes the resumption of the competition after Christmas will be a decisive round.
“The first week back could lock in the top four with some sides up against the top two Wodonga and Benalla and we’re playing Rutherglen on their home turf,” he said.
“But this year more than any other I can remember there are no “gimmes”.
“If you don’t show up on the day you will get beaten.”
But Brimblecombe talked up Wangaratta’s chances.
“We were a bit unsettled at the start of the year and there is nothing like finding that winning feeling to boost confidence and self-belief,” he said.
“After Christmas we get back Trevor Sellwood and Gerald Brown, and Matt Muller has been back for the past two weeks, which only adds to our depth.”
