The 300-seat conference facility, 120-room serviced apartments and restaurant has been proposed for Silverwoods in Yarrawonga and could be operating under the Accor Hotels Sebel banner by 2018.
Murray Regional Tourism Board chief executive Mark Francis said the development would outstrip projects under way or nearing completion at Mildura, Echuca and Swan Hill.
“It has got the potential to drive a significant amount of visitation in the Yarrawonga-Mulwala area,” he said.
“It crosses over from leisure to business events for the region.
“There is certainly capacity for that, particularly in the style of accommodation they are proposing to build with conference facilities right on the waterfront.”
The centre, which will also include a pool, gym and other health club amenities, will be built on The Point and be the centrepiece of a long-held vision for a marina area.
Silverwoods owners, Lotus Living, has also completed the 18-hole golf course which could be open for play at Easter.
Lotus Living became the new owners of Silverwoods in April last year.
Mr Francis said the Silverwoods’ owners were determined to realise the estate’s full potential.
“You’ve only got to look at the investment they have put into the golf course,” Mr Francis said.
“This is the next step on that journey.”
