The Albury runner has made it five wins for the season by taking out the Devonport 70 in Tasmania.
Only days after winning the Latrobe Gift, Gill-Vallance underlined his versatility by winning the sprint in a blanket finish.
“It was great to win at 70,” the 31-year-old said.
“The finish was really tight and I just got home.”
Running off 9.75 metres, the Adrian Fury-trained athlete held on in blustery conditions for his narrow win.
Gill-Vallance said he now had no preference when it came to the distance of the events he contested.
“I used to focus on the 400 metres more than anything, but we had a tough off-season and it must have started to work and help my 70,” he said.
“All the hard work has paid off and I have improved a lot in the 70.
“I enjoy them both.”
Albury’s Hayden Wyliie won the maiden 200-metre event for runners who have never won a race.
In the main event, Brady Lehmann finished second in the 400 metres in a photo-finish.
The Border trio will now turn their attention to today’s Burnie Gift, with Lehmann running in the gift and Gill-Vallance focusing on the 400 metres.
