The controversial osteopath who claims vaccines are linked to autism, asthma and auto-immune disorders, was due to begin a series of anti-vaccination seminars in Melbourne on March 1, before travelling to Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.

Tickets for a dinner with the high-profile campaigner, who says she is a medical practitioner, are also being sold on booking system eventbrite for up to $200. The dinner was meant to take place at the Amora Hotel Riverwalk in Melbourne on February 28.

But on Thursday, general manager of the hotel Tim Bilston said he had cancelled the event for "commercial reasons".

"We're not making any comment on vaccination … we had a contract which means we can opt to cancel at any time or within an appropriate amount of time."

He said organisers of the event were disappointed but "took it OK".

It also appears the Bayview Eden hotel in Melbourne, which was booked to host a seminar, has cancelled. Until this morning, eventbrite was advertising it as a venue. The website now says the venue is "yet to be determined".

Organisers of the anti-vaccination event called Birth Baby and Beyond have posted a note on the eventbrite site, saying the venue cancelled due to "bullying by the sceptic society and others who do not believe in informed consent, free speech and respect for others' rights".

The same cancellation message is posted for tickets to one of its Sydney seminars which was previously booked at an unknown venue in the Sutherland Shire.

Director of the Narooma-based Concord Function Centre Deep Gujral said he was also cancelling one of the events booked at his venue because it was "too controversial".

On Wednesday night, general manager of the Kareela Golf and Social Club in Sydney Dennis Skinner told the ABC he had cancelled one of Dr Tenpenny's seminars because he did not want to be associated with it.

"The club as a venue, we don't have a position for or against this; we just decided the subject matter was too controversial for us to be involved in," he told the ABC.

A pro-vaccination group that includes doctors and scientists has been lobbying the venues to cancel through a "community run" petition which has attracted nearly 7000 signatures.

The group, Stop The Australian Anti-Vaccination Network, have also been calling for Immigration Minister Peter Dutton to prevent Dr Tenpenny from entering Australia, saying her misinformed views pose a dangerous threat to the community.

The minister is yet to respond, but a spokesman said he was taking advice and would make further comment when appropriate.

Prominent Australian anti-vaccination campaigner and organiser of the Dr Tenpenny events, Stephanie Messenger, said the cancellations set a "very dangerous precedent".

"It is very sad that they have given into bullying. They don't believe in freedom of speech. Parents have a right to know all sides of the debate," Ms Messenger said.

Dr Tenpenny, the author of Saying No to Vaccines, was expected to be joined at the seminars by Australian homeopath Isaac Golden, who promotes natural products to prevent potentially fatal infectious diseases.
