Two police were speaking to a Gypsy Joker at the BP service station on Wodonga Place on Saturday night when he became angry and assaulted them.
They sprayed the bikie with capsicum spray and a member of the public helped restrain him.
Sgt Matt Zemaitis yesterday said police appreciated the man’s assistance.
“Such incidents are quite confrontational for police,” he said.
“They were able to resolve the situation, so the assistance was greatly appreciated.
The police had approached the bikie, 33, because he was revving the motor on his bike.
They later found a torch the bikie was carrying doubled as a stun gun.
The man had not tried to use it on police during the incident.
“The man wasn’t confrontational to members of the public,” Sgt Zemaitis said.
“He was confrontational to the police — that’s where it escalated.”
He said with the incident occurring outside the service station, it had not been captured by security cameras.
The man was questioned at the police station before being charged with possessing a prohibited weapon, using offensive language, resisting arrest and assaulting police.
He was granted conditional bail and will appear before Albury Local Court on February 18.
