A FATHER and his son are facing drug and firearms charges after police found 52 cannabis plants growing between tomato and corn plants at a Mount Beauty house yesterday.

Four police raided the Kiewa Crescent home early yesterday and took 2½ hours to remove the plants after receiving a tip-off.
The plants — some several feet tall — were carted away, along with several shopping bags full of dried marijuana.
Officers also found several unsecured firearms on the property.
Acting Sgt Peter Dilley said police were happy with the result.
“It’s good to get that quantity of drugs off the streets,” he said.
“It’s a large quantity.
“It’s a cash crop that is being grown for illicit gains.
“Cannabis is illegal for a reason.”
Police said the plants they had found spread between a range of vegetable plants, including tomatoes, corn, and peppers and were of varying stages of maturity.
Officers raided the home about 8.30am after receiving a court search warrant.
A Mount Beauty man was charged on summons with cultivating a traffickable amount of cannabis.
He was also charged with trafficking, possessing cannabis and firearms offences.
Police later interviewed and charged the man’s son on summons with the same offences.
They don’t expect to make further arrests.
