Natalie, who asked for her surname to be withheld due to fears for her safety, awoke on Wednesday morning to find her car window had been smashed with a rock and kerosene poured over the vehicle.
The fuel was lit, but the flames were extinguished by rain before the fire could take hold.
The woman and her two daughters are terrified and afraid to go to sleep.
“They didn’t want to go to sleep last night in case they came back and set fire to the house instead,” Natalie said.
“People should really think before they do stuff like this.
“They don’t realise how much they affect people’s lives.
“We were waking up all night at every sound.”
Natalie now plans to leave the town and was staying in a motel last night.
She described the damaged 1986 Ford Falcon as “my baby, my pride and joy”, which had been left unroadworthy due to the damage.
“It’s pretty devastating,” Natalie said.
“My boyfriend has just started work in Albury and he’s got to stay there now because I can’t drive the car.
“I was giving him a lift every day.”
Natalie said she didn’t have any enemies, but said a person had recently been sending her threatening text messages and she thought they may be responsible.
“Logistically, it’s better for us to stay in this area, but I don’t want to,” she said.
“We usually have pretty quiet lives.”
Natalie has been told it will cost at least $800 to fix her vehicle, which she will be unable to drive for at least the next week.
Police from the Wangaratta Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the matter.
