Chief executive Carla Northam wants the Senate to overturn the law she says was snuck through Parliament by Farrer MP Sussan Ley while she was still assistant minister for Education.
She says the government failed to consult the sector on a new law that will prevent family day care educators from using services for their own children on the days they themselves provide care.
Gerogery mum Liz Villiers, who provides before and after-school care for five families and has her own two boys cared for in family day care when she works two days a week in administration, has had a tough decision to make.
But she has chosen to quit her administration job so she can continue to provide before and after school care.
Ms Ley and new Minister for Social Services Scott Morrison says the law is aimed at preventing “child-swapping”, where educators care for each other’s children so both can claim payments.
Family Day Care Australia says the changes unfairly affect those who have been appropriately utilising services and the changes have given families only two months to make other arrangements.
