Bernard Tomic did up his laces and then aced Tomas Berdych to win the first game of their fourth round match, and began to saunter towards his courtside seat, and the sell-out Margaret Court arena crowd nestled further into theirs. Project Bernie and the mission to establish an Australian man in the quarter-finals of the eponymous Open for the first time in 10 years was on track.
