I find the Albury Council proposal for the removal of mature trees from QEII Square revolting.

These beautiful and majestic green sentinels must not be touched — for any reason.
If they are an interference with new-fangled aesthetic notions of city planners, too bad!
Let them create their “new Albury” walkways and cafe vistas around them, but hands off these godly leaf-bearers.
If city planners think the square should be just a sea of grass, the heart of Albury will lose its visual splendour and character.
One hundred newly planted seedling trees can never replace the natural power and energy of a single mature tree.
There is much to reason with here — elemental life must be recognised and afforded pre-eminence over fashion, money, profit and the ruining of a landscape in favour of change.
It’s trees that give our streets their character.
So too with QEII Square — it’s the trees that make it what it is.
Remove them and this will be forever lost.
