It was acknowledged as Albury’s community group of the year from a field of eight nominations.
Back in 2011, the club received the same award and it maintains a high work ethic in civic, cultural and social welfare areas.
The club was formed in 1970, has 60 members and provided more than 7600 volunteer hours in the past 12 months.
It has worked on projects such as food catering, tree planting, assisting with the Women’s Bsafe domestic violence program, aged care programs and many more.
It has provided more than $60,000 to community welfare organisations, school bursaries, national research institutions and public appeals.
The club’s extensive list of recipients includes Headspace mental health program, “Hilltop” Carers Accommodation Centre, bush fire appeals, local and national flood victim appeals and disadvantaged childen camps.
The award was accepted by long-time club members David Kefford and Charlie Leaney.
Mr Kefford, a club member for 43 years, said it was “a bit of a shock really”.
Mayor Kevin Mack said it is a special award with so many organisations in the city work tirelessly every day to help others.
“Our community groups are the engine room of our community,” Cr Mack said.
The other nominations were Albury Wodonga parkrun, Border Music Camp, Astronomical Society Albury-Wodonga, Equal Love on the Border, Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod, Australian Red Cross Hands On Program and “Speaking with Freedom” Volunteers.
A special mayoral commendation was given to the Red Cross Hands On Program which has been running since 1961.
There is a group of more than 30 volunteers who visit nursing homes, hostels and other aged care facilities where residents may not receive regular visitors.
