Alison Gillie was asleep with her partner Robert Mayne and son, 2, at their Eagle Court house on Saturday night when someone broke into their garage.
The family’s black 2011 Kia Rio was parked in the garage and contained Ms Gillie’s wallet, and her son’s baby seat and stroller.
The thieves found the keys Ms Gillie had left in the car and drove off.
She did not know the car had been stolen until midday Sunday.
It was found dumped, without keys, off Waratah Way yesterday, and Ms Gillie is likely to pick it up today.
“I’m glad it has been found, but I’d prefer it wasn’t taken at all,” she said.
“The police said there’s a dent and a scratch at the front, probably from where they got it out of the garage.
“We’re not sure of the condition and whether it’s been flogged, and whether items were taken from the car.”
Keys to the house, which were in the car, were also taken and the locks at the house have had to be changed.
“Our son’s bedroom is right next to the garage,” she said.
“We didn’t lock the internal door coming into the house, so they could have easily come inside.
“It’s a scary thought.”
The offenders forced their way through a side door to get to the car, and the baby seat was cut from it and dumped in a neighbour’s yard.
“They knew it was a family car, but that didn’t stop them at all,” Ms Gillie said.
“They had weapons to cut the car seat out, which is concerning.”
The incident was one of several thefts and break-ins in the area at the weekend.
Ms Gillie’s neighbour’s Jeep and a car in Falcon Circuit were broken into and searched, and the Wodonga Cricket Club was broken into and alcohol stolen.
Police are investigating the incidents.
