That is the simple equation facing Belvoir if it is to sneak into sixth spot and play finals cricket this season.
With three rounds to go the Kelly Park team is locked in a three-cornered contest with Tallangatta and Albury for the final spot in Provincial’s top six.
All three play each other in the remaining rounds.
This weekend Belvoir tackles Albury in a two-day clash that could knock one of the two out of the finals race.
Belvoir captain Ryan McNeill said recent efforts had his players believing their best could match any team in the competition.
Chasing an improbable 330 on Saturday the Eagles lost six wickets in the last 15 overs to fall 17 runs short against ladder leaders Wodonga.
“We were pretty shattered on Saturday night,” McNeill said.
“It was a daunting ask but we felt we had got ourselves into the box seat in the latter part of the day before we lost our way at the death and came up short.
“It was another great knock by Drew Cameron (124), his second hundred in as many games, but we probably needed one of the top order to bat through the day and that was the difference in the end.
“We beat East Albury (second) before Christmas and then almost beat the ladder leaders on Saturday — so we know our best is more than competitive.”
McNeill said the team would have to win all three remaining two-day games.
Only one of those games is at home.
“It is not ideal,” he said.
“But in the last three games we have made 250, 350 and 310 so we are making decent scores.
“Our bowling attack isn’t going to blast sides out but everyone knows they have a role to play with the ball in the hand and when they are fielding.
“What we need to get rid of is that 20-over patch each Saturday where we lose our focus — against good sides you just can’t switch off.”
