The proposal has been the subject of several letters since the notice of intention to sell land was published late last year.
The Logic estate has been a long-term investment made by the council.
It has always been its intention that this land would be sold at the right time for appropriate development to gain a return on its original investment.
Those who have all the information about the project will be well aware that the long-term business plan for Logic has been built on several critical pillars.
From the start, one of these was this proposed intermodal hub.
The financial success of Logic in the long term will be improved significantly by the presence of an intermodal hub.
It will no doubt lead to the sale of more land near those industries which seek to take advantage of the rail connection.
As ratepayers, we should be pleased that the council is finally reaping the reward of its long- term investment by attracting significant private investment to our region.
The development of an intermodal hub at Logic is one of the highest regional priorities for infrastructure developments in the broader Hume region, as evidenced by the priority and endorsement given to it in the Hume regional plan — a plan that has been developed over several years and supported without amendment by state governments of both colours.
I understand the facility being proposed by SCT will be part of a much larger network of similar hubs across Australia.
We should be pleased that our region will be part of this network, cementing us as one of the major freight hubs in Australia.
