A court has heard the dust-up between the groups happened about 1.05am on August 31 and Edwards decided to leave the scene.
He got into a black Subaru Impreza and after a short time drove towards the two groups.
Edwards steered the vehicle into the assembled crowd and hit one of them, who was thrown over the car’s bonnet, landed on the roadway suffering minor injuries.
The car continued on before Edwards decided to turn around and head back towards the two groups.
This time he hit a second man, who suffered a broken right leg with a bone puncturing the skin.
Edwards did not assist either victim and drove off with bystanders phoning for police and ambulance assistance.
Both arrived a short time later and while speaking to witnesses, police officers saw the Impreza travelling along a street and across the Newell Highway.
They pursued it, stopped the vehicle and arrested Edwards, who was initially taken to the accident site and then the Finley police station.
His breath analysis provided a blood alcohol reading of 0.187.
He admitted drinking 12 bottles of Carlton Dry at the hotel and a function at the Jerilderie racecourse between 6pm and 1am.
Edwards, 22, of Glendaloch Street, Lavington, pleaded guilty in Albury Local Court to charges of high range drink-driving, aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, driving furiously causing bodily harm and failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact caused grievous bodily harm.
Three other charges were withdrawn.
Magistrate Tony Murray ordered a pre-sentence report and adjourned the sentencing until March 26.
Edwards was interviewed by police on September 21 and admitted the offences.
The victim with the broken leg has since had multiple operations at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
They involved skin and muscle grafts to the badly damaged leg.
