Twelve-year-old Austin Shepherd won gold in the 100m freestyle, while Bailey Clemson brought home the bronze in the under-12 100-metre freestyle at the championships in Geelong last weekend.
The under-14 men’s and under-16 women’s relay teams won silver and bronze medals respectively, while the club itself shot up the rankings to finish as the 10th best club overall.
Head coach Wayne Gould said it was the culmination of more than four years of hard work for his young swimmers.
“The future is very bright at this club,” Gould said.
“We’re now starting to reap the rewards after a few lean years, and a fair bit of that success can be attributed to our feeder system from the Gould Swim Academy.
“Just a few years ago this club failed to score a single point at the country championships, so to be where we are now is really indicative of the effort these young swimmers have been putting in.
“We’re particularly pleased with the results we achieved in the relays, it’s really great that we’ve been able to make a mark on the event in a team sense and give some of these swimmers some experience.”
The club took a squad of 25 swimmers to Geelong, and made the finals in 23 events.
Every swimmer who competed achieved a personal best.
“We’re really starting to see some strength and depth develop in these guys across all the age groups,” Gould said.
“This club is really starting to show some strength in and out of the water.”
