Franjic is the only concern for the Socceroos as they chase the biggest piece of silverware ever won by an Australian men's team. He clutched his groin repeatedly during the second half of the 2-0 semi-final win over the United Arab Emirates in Newcastle, but has said it is actually a hip injury.

The Torpedo Moscow right-back had scans on Wednesday, which revealed no damage to the area, giving coaching staff confidence he will be ready to finish an impressive tournament.

"He's still a bit sore from the game but it looks more promising today than it did probably post-game, so he's definitely still a chance," Postecoglou said on Thursday.

"He had some scans, but nothing really came up. It's nothing serious. If it was a normal break, he would be fine. With the quick turnaround that's the issue but that's balanced against the fact it is such a big game and I'm sure he'll give himself every chance.

"I think he just tweaked his hip or his groin, something around that area. He just overstretched for something. It's nothing serious or something that would ordinarily keep him out of a game."

Postecoglou said it wouldn't just be the defender who would be carrying a knock, but reckoned that was normal after five games in three weeks.

"I doubt there's a footballer left in this tournament who is 100 per cent," he said. "Once they cross that white line, you assume everyone is going to give everything they've got. He [Franjic] is in the same boat as the other 22 who are still in recovery mode as well."

Postecoglou said he "never usually makes a Plan B" because "something else might turn up tomorrow" and that he would keep it to himself on whether Franjic will make the team.

However, it is understood that Mark Milligan trained at right-back and is favoured to be the first choice if Franjic fails to recover in time.

"We've got some options in the squad. But I think in fairness to Ivan, we'll give him every chance to be fit," Postecoglou said. "If not, we'll deal with it then. It's just different in this kind of tournament mode to a club, when you can rule out somebody for a week. There's bigger complications than that and it's a big game. It's probably the biggest game of his life.

"That's just international football and if you start preparing Plan B's, you only make it more difficult for them to get in."

Asked what other changes could occur, Postecoglou said he was weighing up the possibility of tweaking his starting line-up.

"We'll have a look, it's still a bit early. [Thursday] is a recovery day, Friday we have a session at the stadium, so we'll see how everyone pulls up," he said. "But I wouldn't envisage too many changes. We'll just wait and see."

While the pressure of being only 90 minutes away from one of the most important prizes in world football looming large, Postecoglou said he wasn't feeling any more stress than normal.

"I'm feeling good. For weeks we've been into it and then you realise it's all over in a couple of days," he said. "It's good and I'm looking forward [to the final]. I was dreading – as much as I like Newcastle – staying up there for the third-versus-fourth play-off. That was enough motivation for me to make sure we're part of it for these last few days.

"I think it's different for me and 90 per cent of my football has been in this country. I'm used to finals, I love finals. I actually quite like this whole build-up to a big game."

Postecoglou said he believed the result would "come down to moments – of brilliance, or someone losing the plot" and that he would focus on the simple things.

"All we can do is prepare really well, and above all maintain our composure and discipline on the day," he said. "There's so many external factors [that] can affect the result. The things we can control are our performance, our composure and our discipline."
