The Grant Anderson-driven entry, pictured below, finished third in a field of 107 cars. His was the only non-professional team in the top 25.
“If you’re going to perform well at any meeting, this is the one where you should do it,” he said.
“It’s one of the biggest races on the calendar, so we’re thrilled with the effort we put in.”
Rain delayed the final until well after midnight, but the crowd stuck around until well past 2am to see Anderson mix it with the best sprint car drivers going around.
“The rain made the track very tricky to negotiate — once the dirt is packed down, it’s difficult to walk on when it’s wet, let along drive on,” Anderson said.
“You just have to wait around and wait for the track to dry.
“The organisers were able to get a few cars out there and try to loosen up the surface so there was a bit more grip.
“But it was still a bit hairy by the time the final race was run.”
The result marked the end of a long week of travelling for Anderson and his team. They had travelled to Geelong and Mount Gambier earlier in the week for other events.
“It’s a pretty hectic travelling schedule no doubt, but to get the kind of result we did is the whole reason we do it in the first place.” Anderson said.
