After bowling the Roos out for just 77, Greta was 4-59 at stumps on day one, needing just 19 for a breakthrough win.
But Justin Triffitt remained wary of an experienced Corowa attack.
“It’s a fast pitch, and there’s certainly a bit in it for the bowlers,” he said.
“We just have to consolidate early and not play any wild shots.”
Alex Nicholson will return to the crease with 30 to his name, accompanied by night watchman Tennessee Younger on two.
Triffitt said the Blues were chomping at the bit to get back out there during training this week, but it would take some cool heads to notch their first win.
“We’ve been keeping it very simple at training, telling our batsmen to play it straight, look to run singles where they can without taking too many risks,” he said.
“The guys have had it drummed into them that they need to value their wicket, and try their best to bat out the day.
“That aspect of the game has been a bit of a weakness for us this season, but with the boys up and about in the way they are I think we’re giving ourselves a great chance.”
Ladder leader Yarrawonga-Mulwala is well on its way to chasing down Bruck’s total of 109.
The Lakers were 1-71 at stumps last Saturday, with Paul Marshall unbeaten on 51.
Marshall was coming off good spell with the ball, taking 2-15, while Ben Doyle (3-28) and Nathan Thomas (2-28) were also crucial.
City Colts got off to a shaky start as they look to chase down Wangaratta Magpies’ total of 118 at Bill O’Callaghan Oval.
Magpies quick Zac Guilfoyle struck early, removing Hayden Murray for 11, before sending Justin Solimo and Scott Clayton on their way for ducks.
Isaac Willett (14no) and Cameron Nottle (1no) will return to the crease as the Colts look to shore up fourth spot on the ladder.
It’s back to square one for Myrtleford and Rovers United today, after they managed to bowl each other out for less than 100.
The Saints will take a 13-run lead into the second innings, with an outright result a possibility for both teams.
Both teams are playing for bragging rights, with finals just out of reach for the seventh and eighth-placed pair.
