The south end of Baylis Street was blocked early on Saturday in the first brutal assault.
A woman brandished a knife and threatened police in a second incident yesterday.
Police examined the footpath from JD’s Kebabs store to the railway station after the man was stabbed on Saturday.
A man, 37, was later arrested and charged with malicious wounding and causing grievous bodily harm to another man, 28, who was stabbed in the throat and face with a broken bottle.
The 28-year-old Good Samaritan is said to have tried to break up an argument between the accused man and a woman on Baylis Street.
The man, who had been arguing, apparently became agitated, kicked up a broken bottle and attacked the man, causing the injuries.
Police said the man, armed with the bottle, had then run towards the Station Place taxi rank before being stopped by witnesses.
No one else was hurt.
The injured man, who was believed to be unknown to his attacker, was rushed to Wagga Base Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He had immediate surgery and his condition improved.
He remained in hospital last night.
The 37-year-old man, who police late said had been intoxicated, was taken to Wagga Police Station. Bail was refused at Wagga Bail Court yesterday and he will appear in Wagga Local Court today.
Yesterday’s incident involved a woman threatening neighbours with a knife and threatening to kill police and their families.
Wagga duty officer Paul Huggett said the woman had been drinking alcohol at a block of Berala Street flats early yesterday.
“At some stage, she became involved in an altercation with a resident, produced a knife and chased him around the flat,” he said.
“Residents took refuge in their flats and dialled triple-0. Police attended and took the knife.”
One policeman was head-butted during the incident.
The woman, 44, was taken to the police station where she was charged with assault, resisting arrest, intimidating police and having offensive implement.
She was refused bail and will appear in Wagga Local Court this week.
